Whoa!

Tag: Curious, Entertainment, Just Fun, Life, Mouthy Girls, ProgressMouthyGirl @ 9:10 pm

My best friend and I were on our way somewhere once, my son was about two or three and in his car seat in the middle of the backseat. I drove an ‘89 Camry back then and the middle in the back was raised and the sides were sort of bucket seats. I turned a corner kind of sharp and hear my son in the back exclaim, “Whoa!” with such surprise and sheer delight that I had to turn and look, he was giggling and the car seat had gone the opposite direction than that of my turn. He turned his little head and his little nose touched the seat beside him.

Of course I pulled over and righted him, laughing the entire time. We were in tears, grabbing sides, almost peeing in our pants hysterical. I was reminded of that “Whoa!” when I did this brain test that I heard about from AnnieBinns.com. But before you go over to MindMedia.com, ha ha, let me say, they claim to help you discover “things about yourself not revealed by other psychology tests.” You’ll have to scroll to the end for the link to the test.

My brain usage profile is:

Your Brain Usage Profile:

Auditory : 56%
Visual : 43%
Left : 36%
Right : 63%

Sabrina, you show a slight right-hemisphere dominance with a moderate preference for auditory processing, an unusual and somewhat paradoxical combination of characteristics.

I found this amusing because I have said before that I feel I am a walking paradox. Ironic that they pointed that out. And, we all know that I’m unusual, that’s not news.

You are drawn to a random and sometimes nonchalant synthesis of material. You learn as it seems important to a specific situation, and might even develop a resentment of others who attempt to direct your learning down a specific channel.

I was always irritated by tests that purported to tell you what you would be good at, why be limited? It was also funny to me because I spent years in retail, then at about 21 I decided to get into medical, and worked my way up to medical assistant. Then I went to work for an Investigative Agency in August and got a raise in the first month, have consistently impressed my bosses and got a promotion six months into the job. So it makes sense that it would tell me that I learn as I need it.

Your right-hemispheric dominance provides a structure that is only loosely organized and one which processes entire swatches of reality, overlooking details. You are emotional in your reactions and perceptual more than logical in your approach, although you can impose structure and a language base when necessary.

Wow, I don’t even know what to say to that. Are they saying I’m scatterbrained and only organized when necessary? I would definitely agree that I am emotional in my reactions, however irritating.

Your auditory preference, on the other hand, implies that you process information sequentially and unidimensionally. This combination of right-brain and auditory modes creates conflict, as you want to process data more rapidly than your natural processes allow.

No shit? I have often found myself stuttering trying to get something out of my brain and out of my mouth at the same time, and it just makes me look stupid.

Your tendency to be creative and free-flowing is accompanied by sufficient ability to organize and be logical, allowing you a reasonable degree of success in a number of different endeavors. You take in information methodically and systematically which can then be synthesized rapidly. In this manner, you manage to function consistently well, although certainly less efficiently than you desire.

This explains my attempts at poetry in my teenage angst. I do think I’m pretty well organized and moderately successful in my endeavors so far. I do really well with lists and make them for myself frequently. I do find however that I’ll get halfway in and forget all about the list - efficiency is definitely a weak point of mine.

You prefer the abstract and are a theoretician at heart while retaining the ability to be practical. You find the symbolism in a great deal of what you encounter and are something of a “mystic.”

Makes sense in terms of my interest in mysteries, suspense novels and investigative shows. Probably also explains my strong attraction to music as it is almost nothing but symbolism, all music in every form is full of symbols and expressions and a hodgepodge of others’ description of their emotion in their own symbols.

With regards to your lifestyle, you have the mentality which would be good as a philosopher, writer, journalist, or instructor, or possibly as a systems designer or social worker. Perhaps most important is your ability to “listen to your inner voice” as a mode of skipping over unnecessary steps to achieve your goals.

I can agree with that, I’ve always kind of been a writer, just had a few dormant years when there was nothing but grey in my life and no source of inspiration. I do think I have honed the ears for my voice over others, so that I stay true to myself and happy. Glad it noticed and I can honestly say I’ve been able to skip lots of steps to get where I’m going.

Whoa! I think the results are dead on. If you take this test, post the results so we can all see how you work MouthyGirl!

The Genius is Gone

Tag: LifeMouthyGirl @ 8:41 pm

I’ll never forget the first time I saw George Carlin do stand up. I’d become a recent stand up junkie and had been going to “Dead Comics Society”, a weekly Thursday event in a country club in Dallas.

Anyways, I will not ever forget the appreciation I had and still have, for a comic that isn’t full of crap. By this I mean, he isn’t afraid to touch the “touchy” subjects. Doesn’t shy away from taboo topics and though he couldn’t say the seven words you can’t say on television, anyone who ever heard that bit found out what those words were very quickly, a comic that inspires that kind of activity beyond the show is a legend.

George Carlin wasn’t one of those comedians where you could go to a show, leave it and promptly forget what the topic was. Our world is funny, and to stand on a stage and make jokes about marriage and kids and other “safe” things and never touch on subjects that are affecting everyone, even if it pisses someone off, well then you’re just temporary entertainment - a dime a dozen novelty, someone I see to occupy myself for a few hours and promptly forget.

If however, you come out on stage and rage about the same damn things that piss me off about people in this country, and the people that run the country and the dumbass things that we see on the news well then my friend you have my attention. In fact, if you can make me laugh about the bullshit I see on the news, I’m an automatic fan.

It’s that easy, identify with me and show me that you understand the same crap I have to deal with, that it touches you too then I won’t think that you’re pretty sure you’re better than me standing on that stage. Most comics aren’t out there to make a difference they just want to make us laugh and that is indeed a noble purpose.

But if you can make me laugh and make a difference possibly in the way that I think, then George Carlin might have someone to follow in his footsteps. Until such time comes, I’m afraid the closest thing that we have is Lewis Black, and I don’t know about y’all but he’s no George Carlin.

I’ll miss you man.

Can You Do It?

Tag: Life, Mouthy Girls, Opinion, Progress, StressMouthyGirl @ 8:06 am

There are some changes due at my job and new employees will be coming on board soon, in light of this I decided to write today about accepting a job offered to you.

Can you keep up with everyone else at work? Manage to get your job duties done every day and find solutions to problems when they arise? Are you a proactive person or a reactive person?

Proactive means that you might spot a situation about to occur and you step in to correct it and make everything come out as it should. It means you have a grasp of your job/position/company well enough to know when something is about to happen, and you subsequently take the necessary steps to prevent and fix the issue.

Reactive means that you don’t see anything coming because you don’t know all the facets of your position/job/company and don’t expect when a problem comes your way, and most times you have to scramble to correct it as fast as you can, sometimes making mistakes along the way because you were in a hurry.

Being proactive takes a lot of work and discipline, it takes diligence in watching over your job and all that occurs with it, including the people you interact with that have an affect on your performance. Tolerating shoddy work is for the birds, I gotta tell you if I were an employer, I’m not sure I’d be liked very much.

Don’t take a job if you can’t do everything in that job description. Don’t expect to be able to learn your way into something completely new to you. It’s not fair to the boss, you or the other employees to have the burden of training someone 100% for their new job. That accounts I think for nervousness, when you walk into a new job knowing that you can do that job, it takes the pressure off because you know you are capable.

Gotta run because 8:00 is two minutes away and I have lots of work to do. Have a great Monday everyone!

I guess I kind of carry myself a little like that, like I belong wherever I am. Regardless, it made for some funny times really.

Anyways, I love funny shirts, Target, WalMart and all those retailers have started to pick up on that, but I have a special treat today. Busted Tees offers shirts you can’t really find on the shelf anywhere, very funny stuff.

Worker Bee First, Queen Second

Tag: Just Fun, ProgressMouthyGirl @ 7:15 am

Last nite I was up making changes to MouthyGirl, adding pages and editing pages and working on some other things, you may not have noticed yet so I thought I’d take a minute to point it all out to you.

First things first, I updated What is a MouthyGirl? so be sure to check that out and see if you notice the changes I made there. I also started a page for the MouthyGirl Poll I introduced a few days ago so that I could continue getting answers from you guys on things you might like from MouthyGirl.

Then I added a Contact Me page so you guys could find me almost anywhere on the net, if I’m on. Thought you might like to track the MouthyGirl if you had something to say, I always welcome contact and opinions from you guys so Contact Me should make that much easier.

There’s also now a Subscribe to Me page that makes it simple and easy to sign up to get my updates daily in your email or in a reader. I popped over to the Advertise on MouthyGirl.com page next to update some links and check the copy just to be sure it sounded somewhat decent. There may be more changes here soon too, so keep your eyes peeled.

The only page I haven’t made any changes to is About Me but I’m about to go change the picture of myself there, so go peep at me if you like on the About Me page.

See how much I love you guys, I’m trying to make life as easy as possible on MouthyGirl for you. I know how hard it is everywhere else, I got your back. ;)

Now you know what I’ve been up to, what are you doing?

MouthyGirl Unplugged

Tag: Humble Beginnings, Humility, Life, Mouthy GirlsMouthyGirl @ 9:22 pm

You ever have one of those days where stress just doesn’t touch you? I wish I had more like this. Don’t know why this day was a breeze as so many of them aren’t but today, well nothing got to me today….nada.

Oh boy is this a rare one. There are lots of things I could have gotten all twisted up about, but didn’t. I actually had a good day. So bizarre. So on with the point of today’s post…

I was listening to Warrant today. “Thin Disguise” and it got me thinking about the facade’s that we put up so that people don’t see us. I mean people see you, but they don’t see you as you would be around people you enjoy being around. So I thought while he sings, “…one of these days when I have the time I’ll show you what I’m like…on the insi-ide” I thought maybe I should share a few things about myself you guys don’t know.

I’m surprisingly domestic. I like to please the man of the house, my man. I like to let him make the decisions, if he’s so inclined, it’s less work for me really. And to a certain extent, I like being told what to do. I let him run the remote and he doesn’t normally get any complaints out of me. I get lost in my mind thinking about things, that’s enough to do without committing to some stupid TV show. I’ll complain if it’s the fifth time we’ve seen an episode of family guy in three weeks, I’ll usually say something like, “You know reruns are cool and all, but not so much when they only rerun five episodes”…he gets the hint and he’ll flip it. It’s rare that I’m actually watching it so I really don’t know how many times it’s been on. I try to make sure my man is happy with me, our relationship and all that. He calls me the CFO of the house, I think that’s cute.

I’m very nice, I have a calming demeanor for other people, I find people tend to tell me all kinds of things because I listen very well. I empathize very easily and really genuinely want people to have a good life, everyone. Even my enemies. But for those people, just please leave me out of it, lol.

I give and love to do it, I donate as often as I can to St. Jude, those poor babies shouldn’t suffer at all, ever. No child deserves to get any kind of illness that’s life threatening, it’s just not fair, so I’ll help any way that I can. I donate to Veterans too, but I do not subscribe to magazines when someone knocks on my door, and I can’t stand solicitors. If I want something, I’ll find it.

I turn to mush when I’m being yelled at. I do not know how to handle that kind of situation. I’ve been thinking lately I should find some book on tape about how to handle confrontation. I know what I want to say, but I feel like if I open my mouth I’ll cry like a fucking baby, and that frustrates me so I just take being yelled at with nothing to say, no rebuttals. That’s perhaps the thing that irritates me most about myself.

I have always felt like a failure even when I’m successful at something. It’s as if I just don’t believe I’ve done anything worthy of recognition, though when pointed out I take the credit no problem, I think my confidence still needs work.

MouthyGirl is a person that I’m creating to give me strength, to help me become something I never would’ve dreamed I could be, a successful leader that takes nothing from anyone.

But before I wrap this up, remember I said I’m surprisingly domestic? At the same time I realize there are things a man needs, that I try to provide. I think I’ve said before that I like to make sure he wants for nothing…so he went out tonight with a friend as thanks for helping us with our move. He comes home and tells me that they talked a bit about their women, how cute huh? Let’s just say, I’m getting props because I go above and beyond.
