This weekend Congress finally passed the economic stimulus package. In an effort to appease Republicans many of the most “objectionable” parts of the package were taken out. Tax cuts for businesses were added. In the end it got 3 Republican Senator votes and zero House Republican votes.
This weekend John “the fundamentals of the economy are strong” McCain went on State of the Nation and basically said the president wasn’t being bipartisan enough. I see it this way, John, Obama extended his hand, but the Republicans couldn’t unclench their fists. And John, its not just me who says that. It’s the majority of Americans who think that way according to a recent Gallup poll. And you know what else? Arlen Specter, one of the three Senate Republicans who really thought about “Country First” and voted for the stimulus says that more of your party would have voted for the Bill, but you guys are worried about your political careers. C’mon John, its clear you don’t have a backbone..you’re taking orders from Rush Limbaugh.
And your buddy Lindsey Graham said this weekend that we should consider nationalizing banks. I’m confused, you guys don’t want the government involved in helping to create jobs but you’re okay with government taking over the banking system? I don’t know, that sounds an awful lot like Socialism. (wink, wink you betcha).
Anyway, John, next time you say my President isn’t being bipartisan enough, I think it would be best if you took a good long look in the mirror. Pot. Kettle. Black.
