As everyone knows, Glenn Beck set up an organization called the 9/12 project to March on Washington on September 12th. As per his banner on his site, “The 9-12 Project is designed to bring us all back to the place we were on September 12, 2001. The day after America was attacked we were not obsessed with Red States, Blue States or political parties. We were united together to protect the values and principles of the greatest nation ever created.” Good sentiment, but the 9/12 project is not about bringing us together at all. In fact, it was created to further the divide between Red states and Blue states. It was created by the very same people who want to do away with government and replace it with privatized industry and it is funded by those same private industries.

Let’s just take a step back here. I understand some of you don’t trust/like/respect the president of the United States, fine. Eventually, he will be out of office, whether it’s in 4 or 8 years. Trust me, I’ve lived through a president I couldn’t stand, and you will make it through, too. I promise. But really, what you guys are protesting for is just asinine. Private industry does not do everything “better”. Period.

The last 20-30 years in this country, the private industry has taken more and more roles away from the government. Our Congress men and women voted to allow the banks to “self govern” and we ended up with financial crisis of 2008. More of our roads are becoming toll ways, owned by private companies. The prison system is silently and quickly being taken over by for-profit companies. IRS collections are done with private companies. The military is contracting out “security” in our warzones to people who make 10-20 times more than our own soldiers. During Bush’s administration, he pushed for privatization of Social Security. Just imagine what our seniors would be going through right now if that had gone through! The fact is in all the examples I mentioned, the government had been providing the same exact services for years that cost less to the taxpayer.

And if you think that private companies taking over make you “freer”, I ask you this: Exactly what were you freed from, and do you realize that you are just being enslaved?

In a representative democracy, if we do not like what our government is doing, we vote them out. But what happens when the CEO who provides basic public services like water purification decides that it costs too much to make sure the water that we drink is safe? We can’t vote the CEO out, and the shareholders won’t vote them out because he is making the tough choices to ensure his company is making money.

The same is true for healthcare. We have let private companies decide who lives and dies. Their motives are based on profits. If your sister or brother comes down with cancer, they will try to find the loophole to get out of paying for the treatment. Your sister or brother dies, but hey, it’s nothing personal it’s just business. Meanwhile, the CEO of your insurance company takes home a billion dollars, (yes with a B) while your family buries your loved one. The CEO doesn’t care about you. And trust me, those same health insurance companies are helping Glenn Beck organize you to fight for them. Why would you fight FOR them?

What Glenn Beck has done is take you guys back to 9/12 in one respect. You feel the same FEAR we felt on 9/12. This time you don’t fear planes going in buildings or your fellow countrymen dying. You fear the very same government that is here to protect you. But yet, you don’t fear the slow takeover of our country by private corporations who care nothing about your freedom or safety, only about your dollar.

Think about it, please.
