Someday

Someday my son, you will understand…that being your parent was never an easy job.  I took on that job with the knowledge that for the next 18 to 22 years I was devoted and that my primary objective was to raise up a productive member of society.

While I do believe that you will be a productive member of society I don’t think you understand the consequences of the actions that you choose to make.

I never wanted to be that parent that said my life was so much harder than yours and I’ve caught myself saying just that.  It’s not because I want you to feel guilty but because I want you to understand why these things are so disappointing.

Someday you’ll understand… someday you’ll have your own children and someday you’ll have that light bulb moment that reminds you of the conversations that we’ve had..you might even smile.

Stupid Boy

..I knew a guy with a smile in his eyes
And a devilish look on his face
He was like dancing with the devil, and
Looking at the sky, and
Daring the lightning to strike.

He was mighty and strong and
Wore his past on his chest and
Made choices that he knew were wrong
and when that boy got greedy
I didn’t need it

…I knew it would end all along.
