Dear Reader

Tag: HumilityMouthyGirl @ 2:16 pm

Dear Reader,

I decided to write this letter because I needed to say thank you. Thank you for coming here when you do, however often that is, even if this is your first time reading my words, thank you.

I would send you all a thank you card, or an e-greeting but I think that might be a bit excessive, a blogger sending cards to her readers.

But honestly, I appreciate those of you that come here day after day to read my musings, my silliness, my meme’s and general ramblings. I’m really not all that interesting. I have opinions much like you, I’m sure we share a few, you are here after all. But I am thankful too, because of you. Everyday I write something, whether it’s a little something or
a lot of something, it’s something.

I used to write in high school and as the saying goes, when I was no longer a child, I put down childish things, I thought my writing was childish, what I didn’t realize was while the
content was childish, the writing itself was not.

You’ve given me a reason to write, and it’s something I sincerely love doing. I feel again that passion that I felt when I was a teenager, writing my childish anguish out on paper, expressing my feelings and getting them off my chest in the only way that I knew how at the time. I still have an easier time writing my feelings than discussing them, but I’ve grown up a lot since then and can communicate pretty efficiently I think.

Thanks to you the fire is re-ignited in me to write, thanks to you I carry around a little notebook and write ideas down daily…well almost daily. Thanks to you I feel inspired to write every day and guilty when I don’t.

I appreciate what you’ve brought out in me, I’ve spent a lot of years wondering what I was meant to do, trying to find purpose and reason for my existence, and I honestly feel that while it may not be MouthyGirl.com that I was put here for, it’s got something to do with writing, so thank you for providing an outlet for me.

I’m not Distracted…I’m just Multi Tasking

Tag: Entertainment, LifeMouthyGirl @ 9:45 am

I watch music videos in the morning, it’s very non committal so I can watch a minute or two and walk away to do something and not feel like I’m missing anything. I pondered that this morning as I drank a cup of coffee, why it is that I usually leave the tv on something like that. I’m the same with video games, I don’t really like it when it’s heavily involved, just gimme something I can play for a few minutes or so because otherwise I’m gonna get bored.

There’s a cute email going around about housework or something where the subject, a woman, starts a task in the living room, picks up a dish and goes to the kitchen and sees something in the kitchen needing to be done so she starts that task, forgetting what she was working on in the living room. Then she sees a shirt for the laundry in the kitchen and goes and starts the laundry, forgetting her previous job in the kitchen and living room was still undone. This happens each time she’s working on something, she gets distracted with another chore and so on and so forth until she comes full circle back to the living room when she realizes she’s started 12 projects and hasn’t finished one yet.

I think we can all relate to that to a certain extent. We find that unless we’re extremely interested in a subject or activity, we lose interest quickly and are on to the next best thing, preferably something more interesting to us individually. It strikes me that in children, this behavior is seen as a deficiency, when really it’s the nature of the beast that is the human.

We are an entertained people, if we fail to be entertained, we find ways to entertain ourselves. What’s wrong with that you ask? What’s wrong is that sometimes gets in the way of what you should be doing. I can understand why men roll their eyes about shopping, I do too. I can understand the whole resistance to the opera and ballet and shit like that, because I have no interest in that myself.

I’m entertained by cruder things I suppose, like alcohol and comedy and stupid movies that make me LOL purely because of the ridiculousness. I still dig bathroom humor, I didn’t grow out of that…I think it’s hilarious and will rate you on your various noises if you’re close enough to me. :)

So does this mean I have ADD or something? I don’t think so. I think that’s a cop out honestly. I could rant about this for a while but let me just say this, we have some of the best technology in the world and are always coming up with more and more, how much inventing can be done in the future if we’re all on drugs to bring our energy levels down?

What are your thoughts on this?

Official Christmas Freak Out!

Tag: LifeMouthyGirl @ 4:29 pm

It’s a week until Christmas and I haven’t bought a SINGLE GIFT! It’s officially time to freak out. At my age though, shouldn’t I be a tad more organized?

Enter reality show….

Please?

Crap, there’s not a show for this? Oh I’m in deep now…

It’s times like this where I think back through my disorganized life, would you believe even my memories are all disorganized as well? Yeah, you’re not surprised. Me either. Birthdays, holidays - I can know they’re coming all year long, just like Christmas and I still won’t be prepared.

Everyone has something that they loathe, they just hate doing it. Shopping is my kryptonite. I HATE IT. Did I say that already? But like any fear, obstacle or problem, this I shall overcome.

Part of the reason I hate shopping I bring onto myself, by waiting like I do until the very last possible minute to handle this, I put myself right into the frenzy of crazy shoppers that are looking for that perfect gift.

Discipline is what I need. I need to be disciplined about shopping, when I know something is coming, the minute I find out I should get out there, take care of business and not have to dash frantically at the last minute to get something done. But discipline is not something that’s my strong suit. LOL. See what I did there?

I would shop online, but I’m one of those kind of people that likes immediate gratification when I make a purchase, I want to hold it for confirmation that it now belongs to me, I don’t like to wait, unless that’s the only way I could get that deal.

I’m beginning to appear impatient aren’t I?

How do you look at shopping? What makes you enjoy it?

I need a new perspective on shopping, can I borrow yours?

I’m Your Victim!

Tag: Life, OpinionMouthyGirl @ 6:28 am

You’re going to think I’m a jerk for saying this at first, but you’ll understand in a minute.

Enough already with the stick figure people on the back of your car identifying your family, and your dog and cat. Enough with the “I’m proud of my Cub Scout” stickers, “My Child is an Honor Student at XYZ Elementary” or the figures of dancers, cheerleaders, hockey players and whatever sport those kids are in. Stop it with the stickers!

I could drive to the nearest intersection and probably pick off eight to ten cars that have crap like that on the back. Just knock it off. The minivan tells us you have a big family and are proud of it, no sense in advertising how many mouths you’re feeding.

The beef I have with that stems from having worked for a private investigative firm. Some of the first things you learn in this field are how to conceal who you are, who your family is and anything about you that someone could use to find out more information.

Imagine I was a robber bent on pulling into a mall and robbing a shopper, I park behind a van that has two adult stick figures and three little girl stick figures and a dog and cat. Then as I wait for someone to look particularly victimizable I see the van driver, who happens to be wearing a nice sized wedding ring, as she digs through her purse beside the driver door (have them ready folks!). This being my opportunity I hop out of my vehicle and get over there and ask as I see people walking by, “I noticed a figure of a dog on your van, what kind of dog do you have?”, then just as soon as the people walking by are out of view, I knock her down, make her give me her jewelry and purse and I’m outta there.

The less a person knows about you, the less they are able to use as a segway to do something else, potentially harmful, to you. I’m not trying to make you paranoid, but in this society you should be a little bit paranoid, kids getting kidnapped everyday and it’s the shopping season for the holidays, so you know that’s happening a lot too.

If you’re going to leave those stickers on your car, just be aware when a stranger walks up to you and seems to know more than he should, you made it easy, anyone that’s paying attention can watch for just a few minutes and learn a lot about a person.

Be careful people, not everyone is nice!

I’m Gonna Try It!

Tag: Curious, LifeMouthyGirl @ 8:56 am

I’ve seen this more and more on TV and I’m very curious about how well it m ay work. I’ve always enjoyed the idea of fresh herbs and spices in the kitchen, but knowing my lack of a green thumb, never really fully embraced the idea of having them.

But now I have no excuse, because they’ve made it ridiculously easy for us to get healthier. I want this for Christmas…

Don’t you?! I think it would be awesome to yank a tomato off my plant at any time I want to and have a tomato, or have burgers with fresh tomato, that I grew!

We all know that we have to do something to get healthier, so why not do something easy? One reviewer said this about it, “Grow herbs and more, even with the ‘thumb of death’..”which I ironically possess!

I couldn’t ask for more confirmation really, this is incredibly encouraging. So yes, I’d like to have fresh chives, tomatoes, rosemary and all sorts of other seasonings and herbs we don’t use much right now.

What would you grow if you had one?

GirlFriday Inspiration

Tag: Curious, Entertainment, GirlFriday, Just FunMouthyGirl @ 9:38 am

I’ve been inspired recently to make some changes with MouthyGirl.com and I thought I’d mention them and get your input. This isn’t going to be a poll, so for all of you lurkers who like to read but not interact, I’d like you to participate today because I value your input as well.

I’m thinking of taking this blog into more of a magazine direction. Maybe posting more frequently with news, I mean real news, maybe some general interest stories, health information, etc. Tell me what you think. Also, if you could tell me what your favorite magazines are to read, when and if you read them so I can get a better idea of what you like.

I know no one reads magazines anymore so if you read them online, that counts too. ;)

I’d also like to start a column, a sort of advice column but not restricted to love advice like Dear Abby or etiquette advice like Dear Margo (though she is my favorite because she’s so spicy).

But I thought it might be kind of cool to be able to interact with you, share my opinion on your situations, if you like, and have a good time, maybe even a laugh.

So tell me your thoughts, all of you, is there anything you think you should be seeing here that you haven’t yet, any topics you’d like me to talk about?

And here is a fun little video…
