Monday Night Mojo Appreciating Old Music Redone

Tag: Entertainment, Monday MojoMouthyGirl @ 6:23 pm

I got my hands on some music today, I’ve heard some of their stuff before and knew I liked it. Me First and the Gimme Gimme’s are the group I’m talking about. I got their latest cd, circa 2006, but still the latest and am diggin’ it.

I grew up listening to country music and liking it for the most part but outgrew it. The awesome thing is that Me First and the Gimme Gimme’s took the old stuff that I liked, because of the general song quality just tired of the old tired sound, and they turned it into punk. You might call them a cover band, but that wouldn’t do them justice.

You can find them here. Choose between their website and their myspace page. This is the specific album I’m listening to right now, and love it.

That is all.

Is Being Self Centered a Character Flaw?

Tag: Curious, Entertainment, LifeMouthyGirl @ 9:38 am

I was reading a blog by FemaleProdigy this morning that was a meme designed to be about the blogger, the instructions were for her to talk about herself. I don’t see any harm in that, we always want to know at least a little bit about someone when we regularly read what they write, right? I know I do.

She received two comments telling her she was self centered and narcissistic. I don’t know her personally so if she is narcissistic then that’s her deal and not mine to judge, but the whole self centered comment set me off a little. I started to wonder, what if all the people in the world weren’t somewhat self centered.

I think we’d have a big problem on our hands. No one would take care of themselves!

It’s not as simple as you either are or are not self centered, do you wear makeup? Do you wear cologne? Do you try to look fashionable? Well Damn! You’re so self centered! Am I the only one that finds this utterly stupid?

It just seems ridiculous to me that being self centered is a bad thing. Sure some people take that kind of thing too far and never see past themselves, but damn, who are you to decide that based on some words you read on the internet? I think it’s very funny that someone would call being self centered a bad thing, making it accusatory instead of a statement. Even that someone would be offended!

Anyone can call me self-centered, I hope in some ways that I am! I grew up thinking of my sister before myself, then my son before myself, and I still do that a lot just because that’s the way I’ve been taught to be, it’s not all about me and no matter what I say or do, it never will be. I realize that, but on that same token, I’d like to think I’m self centered enough to make myself presentable, even attractive at times.

Honestly folks, to be able to write a blog day in and day out and not go crazy I have to be a little self centered believing that someone will read it. I hear the Field of Dreams voice saying, “If you write it, they will come…..and read it.” I have to believe that or I’m going to start looking at MouthyGirl as a waste of my time, and I don’t think this idea is a waste of time. Do you? Why do you read my musings? Entertainment? If so, hell that’s awesome! If I can even for one moment entertain someone else….um where do I sign and I’ll cut in line even!

If that makes me self centered, good! My generation likes to call “judging” type people haters. There are always going to be haters in this world, or people that judge you without knowing what you are about or who you are, that’s why the last line on the What is a MouthyGirl page is, “Don’t hate the player, hate the game.” The reason for that is that a lot of us have to overcome adversity in this world to get where we’re going and because of this, we’re allowed to be kind of proud of where we’ve been, what we’ve learned and where we’re at.

At least I think so. That’s why I’ve dubbed myself MouthyGirl, I have opinions, beliefs, ideas, suggestions and plenty to say about all of that and more and I dare anyone to tell me that I can’t have something to say. My basic position is if you don’t like it, you won’t read it. It really is that simple in my opinion.

I leave you with a video that I think sums up my opinion on this pretty well.

Have a Great Thursday everyone and I’ll see you tomorrow for GirlFriday!

Bring Out Your Bears, read: old nostalgic something

Tag: Entertainment, Just Fun, Life, Mouthy GirlsMouthyGirl @ 5:20 am

Originally, this meme was designed to showcase your old mementos and I was tagged by DCR. Sadly, I have no mementos, unless you count the clothes I’m hanging onto from high school hoping one day my post-child body will resemble my pre-child body. Yah, I know, big dreams and fat chance.

But since I have no mementos and no stuffed bears to speak of, I have modified this meme to accommodate my weirdness.

I have this book I put together in middle school. It was required and it took me all kinds of hell to put it together. I don’t remember doing it, but I do remember calling my grandmother to help me gather the supplies I would need to get this project done. I remember it was one of the first “A’s” I can remember ever receiving.

Anyways, this book is a photo album, but the point of the book was to talk about where you’ve come from, where you’ve been. You can imagine at the ripe old age of 11 or 12 or so, we had to make some stuff up to fill the pages, and fill them up I did.

I remember thinking when I finally decided how the whole book would flow, that it would be a great work of fiction about my life. And my was it. I talked about the day I was born like I had been there as an observer. I also talked about professions I wanted to be in and the goals and objectives I had at that age.

The details escape me now because as I write this I am at work, on lunch, trying to grasp at the memory that is the oldest and one of the rare examples of a good thing I could pull out of my history. I remember being proud of myself when I got my grade back and thinking, wow, if my life were really like this, I’d have an A+ life! Yes, that’s a hokey thought but what are you at 11 and 12 if not hokey?

I still have that book in a closet, my Grandmother kept it for me, as well as a certificate I received for perfect attendance in 5th grade. High Achiever!

Occasionally after a move or when I’m looking for something I’ll run across that book and every time I do I stop what I’m doing and I sit down and I flip through those pages and it takes me back. I feel 12 again, sitting there in class, I can even picture the classroom, I had a crush on one of my classmates that year. I think about how my home life was and my school life and how opposite they were. I enjoyed going to school until I reached the high school level, because it wasn’t home.

Later when I’m home, maybe I’ll rummage through the closet and find that book again and take some pictures for you to see it. It looks like a 20 year old photo album until you open it up. I always wear a smile as I look through it because it’s one of the few things I have left from childhood that does indeed make me smile.

There’s also a video floating around amongst my family members of myself and my cousin at Six Flags singing “Smokin’ in the Boys Room” on video in a video booth. Complete with goofy clothes, hammy teenagers and a cheesy background. I haven’t seen it in years, but should I come across it I’ll dub it onto YouTube or something and share..you’ll never look at this MouthyGirl the same I’ll tell ya. Just thinking about that video makes me laugh.

So that’s my bear, if you will, of a memory. Now I’m supposed to tag a few people but I won’t. If you want to participate in this meme, email me with the link to your post and I’ll update mine with a link to yours.

See you tomorrow for GirlFriday!

Wednesday Fwd: Fail

Tag: EntertainmentMouthyGirl @ 5:30 am

In a round about way the following was forwarded to me, I think you’ll enjoy it.

LOL, who was responsible for the proofreading?!

Does product placement mean anything to you?

fail-owned-archie-comic-fail.jpg

I almost didn’t post that one because I’m a huge Archie fan, and have a book here I’m halfway through, but it is funny…

I guess the Quality Assurance department was at lunch?

You ever know someone that likes to point out the discrepancies in movies and television shows? My Dad used to do that all the time. He’d also like to tell you why certain things portrayed in movies were so obviously fake because of this or that reason….his way to disprove Hollywood had any validity. I suppose it worked.

These lovely comedic pictures are courtesy of Failblog.org a site I happened upon because it was mentioned in an email forwarded to me, and of course, I had to check it out.

Hope to see you there :)

Monday Morning Mojo Happy Birthday Sis!

Tag: Contests, Entertainment, Just Fun, Life, Love, Monday Mojo, Mouthy Girls, VideosMouthyGirl @ 5:30 am

Today is another Monday, Columbus Day even, which is a day that we celebrate Christopher Columbus discovering the “New World” that would come to be the country we know and love today. I won’t tell you how old she’ll be but she is my older sister.

This week will be very eventful as not only is it my sister’s birthday today, tomorrow my new nephew will be born. One of my younger sisters is going in to have a C-section and we’ll have another addition to the family.

Yesterday, my family, my sister and her family and my Dad and Stepmom all went out for lunch. It was fun, and it’s always nice to spend time with family. We get caught up in our own lives and sometimes forget to stop and get together to catch up. Before you know it the kids are grown and we’re wondering where the time went and reminiscing about when gas was under $1 a gallon. Those were the days.

We are counting down to our cruise on November 1st, getting excited, a little nervous. I’m a little shy. Hey don’t act so surprised, it’s easy to sit down and type out my thoughts and share with you what’s going on in my life, because you don’t have a face when I’m typing, you do when you comment and begin to interact with me here, but until then, I’m just writing to Wordpress. Any further thought beyond that I’m afraid would produce the problem of writer’s block. So the idea of meeting people and sitting with strangers at dinner and all that kind of has me a little wierded out.

So in honor of my older sister getting older today, here’s a song for her.

Ha Ha!

Here’s a song that is special to she and I because it was always a song that reminded us of our little sister..

Finally, a song for my nephew…

I love that song, it’s very true to how I feel about my son, and nieces and nephews. Life has so much to offer that you can’t help but hope that they get to experience the absolute best of everything, and the least experience of pain and trials possible. As children we often underestimate the harsh realities of adulthood because our parents, rightfully, try to shield us from their trials, the things that make them worry. All too often as youngsters we were so busy looking forward to the freedoms of adulthood that we forgot the freedoms of childhood were right in front of us.

Additionally, this weekend I added a few things in the administration panel of MouthyGirl.com to make galleries easier and to add polls to the sidebar, so polls will become a regular sidebar item. They’re a great way to find out what you think without asking for a lot of your time. Also, I began work on the sister site to MouthyGirl.com. I haven’t decided on a slogan for it, or even really a title, this will be where I will introduce products that you might like, and where I’ll start linking to various deals and products that we like. I’m excited about the possibilities of it and will announce it once I’ve gotten it all ready for your viewing.

Stay tuned for Halloween contest details to come everyone and have a Happy Monday. And to my sister April, HAPPY BIRTHDAY SIS!

GirlFriday Contest Coming!

Tag: Contests, E Book, Entertainment, GirlFridayMouthyGirl @ 5:28 am

Yesterday I was over at Shoemoney reading a post and I realized that I hadn’t started my Halloween contest!

So the planning for that is under way. It’ll be a comment contest and depending on how long it takes me to find a sponsor, or several, it might go for one or two weeks.

For it to be a Halloween contest it has to wrap up on Halloween night. Or at least that’s the way I think it will go…we’ll see as I’m still in the planning stages, you definitely want to check back frequently. Plus, I’m leaving for a cruise on November 1st and may not be able to communicate and declare a winner from the ship.

If you would like to sponsor this contest, contact me at MouthyGirl at gmail dot com and we’ll discuss the details.

I am so glad it’s Friday, we’ve been running around all week, last night I finally got to see Iron Man which is a KICK ASS movie! I am so impressed with Marvel’s new movie productions, they are also responsible for the latest Batman movie that gave us all a new look at Batman.

I read somewhere that Marvel didn’t really appreciate the portrayals made before of their characters so they’ve taken it into their own hands. I like it, so I’ll definitely be seeing the next Marvel movie that comes out as well.

Since I couldn’t think of any music videos to post and the ones I did think of wouldn’t let me embed the video, I decided to give you some funny (read: raunchy) jokes instead.

Happy Friday everyone!

Wednesday Fwd: Husband 1.0

Tag: Entertainment, Just Fun, Life, Mouthy Girls, SexMouthyGirl @ 5:30 am

As much as I would love to discuss the debate with you all, I can find no words for most of my opinions about it that aren’t curse words, so we’ll just not talk about it. I think I do know now who I will vote for though.

You’re going to vote right? I have to vote early because I’ll be on a cruise on Election Day but I’m definitely voting. You should too.

Now we’ll save the politics for another post. On to Wednesday Fwd:

Don’t you wish there were tech support for real life problems outside the computer? I guess they call those therapists and they’re not covered by the company but in a perfect world….

Shoulda kept him as a boyfriend!

**INSTALLING A HUSBAND **

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slow down in overall system performance, particularly in the flower and jewelry applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0.

In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as
Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, and then installed undesirable programs such as NBA 5.0, NFL 3.0 and Golf Clubs 4.1.

Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system.

Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?

Signed,

Desperate

DEAR DESPERATE,

First, keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an operating system.

Please enter command: ithoughtyoulovedme.html and try to download Tears 6.2 and do not forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update.
If that application works as designed, Husband1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5.

However, remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0 or Beer 6.1.
Please note that Beer 6. 1 is a very bad program that will download the Farting and Snoring Loudly Beta.

Whatever you do, DO NOT under any circumstances install Mother-In-Law 1.0 (it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources.)

In addition, please do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend 5.0 program. These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband 1.0.

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance. We recommend: Cooking 3.0 and Hot Lingerie 7.7.

Good Luck !

Tech Support

Happy Hump Day Everyone!
