GirlFriday on Voting

Tag: Curious, GirlFriday, Mouthy Girls, Opinion, ProgressMouthyGirl @ 5:30 am

Did you watch the debate Wednesday night? I did. I felt it was an important way to get the views of the candidates directly, without “interpretation” by the media. I typically vote one way, but in this election, I won’t be voting that way.

I’m hoping that my fellow Americans will also vote in this election, it is imperative that we show the politicians in this country that when we are fed up….WE ARE FED UP! That we WILL STAND UP and make it known that it WILL NOT BE business as usual.

I’m thinking that a declining economy is bullshit. I’m thinking that our nation’s children being the most obese in the world, and the least educated in the world is UNACCEPTABLE! Of course it’s a security risk to our country that we have to seek products and services outside America because we haven’t created them yet.

It is unacceptable that our nations southern borders sit open, while people are standing in lines at the airport being searched, made to take extreme measures to prove that they are not terrorists, all the while our southern borders remain a perpetual floodgate of immigrants into this country.

I won’t pretend to have all the answers to the problems of our nation. There’s no way I could, if I even had one solution it would shock the hell out of me, but I know what’s NOT working. I’m tired of politicians spouting double talk and expecting us not to catch it. I’m tired of lobbyists having their way in Washington, making sure that my voice isn’t heard over theirs.

I’m tired of $3.00 per gallon for gas when only 10 years ago it was $1.00 per gallon. I’m tired of quality education being something only for the wealthiest of people. I’m tired of tax breaks for the poor and the wealthy and NOT ME!

I could talk all day about what I’m tired of in Washington because I voted in the last election, and my expectations WERE NOT MET.

So since Election Day 2008 is coming up and we all want to vote, I included this link so you can find your local voting location.

Also, because I’m curious and you’re reading this, I’ve put together a poll, to see how you feel about voting in general.

So take the poll please, and tell me how you feel about voting there, or in the comments. What I especially would like to know though, is what is the most important issue in this election, to you?

Are You Voting in 2008?

  • Hell Yes! There was never a question! (69%, 11 Votes)
  • No, I won't be able to vote. (13%, 2 Votes)
  • Absolutely not, my vote isn't going to change a thing. (13%, 2 Votes)
  • Yes, because I'll feel guilty if I don't. (6%, 1 Votes)
  • Yes, others will give me crap if I don't. (0%, 0 Votes)

Total Voters: 16

Bring Out Your Bears, read: old nostalgic something

Tag: Entertainment, Just Fun, Life, Mouthy GirlsMouthyGirl @ 5:20 am

Originally, this meme was designed to showcase your old mementos and I was tagged by DCR. Sadly, I have no mementos, unless you count the clothes I’m hanging onto from high school hoping one day my post-child body will resemble my pre-child body. Yah, I know, big dreams and fat chance.

But since I have no mementos and no stuffed bears to speak of, I have modified this meme to accommodate my weirdness.

I have this book I put together in middle school. It was required and it took me all kinds of hell to put it together. I don’t remember doing it, but I do remember calling my grandmother to help me gather the supplies I would need to get this project done. I remember it was one of the first “A’s” I can remember ever receiving.

Anyways, this book is a photo album, but the point of the book was to talk about where you’ve come from, where you’ve been. You can imagine at the ripe old age of 11 or 12 or so, we had to make some stuff up to fill the pages, and fill them up I did.

I remember thinking when I finally decided how the whole book would flow, that it would be a great work of fiction about my life. And my was it. I talked about the day I was born like I had been there as an observer. I also talked about professions I wanted to be in and the goals and objectives I had at that age.

The details escape me now because as I write this I am at work, on lunch, trying to grasp at the memory that is the oldest and one of the rare examples of a good thing I could pull out of my history. I remember being proud of myself when I got my grade back and thinking, wow, if my life were really like this, I’d have an A+ life! Yes, that’s a hokey thought but what are you at 11 and 12 if not hokey?

I still have that book in a closet, my Grandmother kept it for me, as well as a certificate I received for perfect attendance in 5th grade. High Achiever!

Occasionally after a move or when I’m looking for something I’ll run across that book and every time I do I stop what I’m doing and I sit down and I flip through those pages and it takes me back. I feel 12 again, sitting there in class, I can even picture the classroom, I had a crush on one of my classmates that year. I think about how my home life was and my school life and how opposite they were. I enjoyed going to school until I reached the high school level, because it wasn’t home.

Later when I’m home, maybe I’ll rummage through the closet and find that book again and take some pictures for you to see it. It looks like a 20 year old photo album until you open it up. I always wear a smile as I look through it because it’s one of the few things I have left from childhood that does indeed make me smile.

There’s also a video floating around amongst my family members of myself and my cousin at Six Flags singing “Smokin’ in the Boys Room” on video in a video booth. Complete with goofy clothes, hammy teenagers and a cheesy background. I haven’t seen it in years, but should I come across it I’ll dub it onto YouTube or something and share..you’ll never look at this MouthyGirl the same I’ll tell ya. Just thinking about that video makes me laugh.

So that’s my bear, if you will, of a memory. Now I’m supposed to tag a few people but I won’t. If you want to participate in this meme, email me with the link to your post and I’ll update mine with a link to yours.

See you tomorrow for GirlFriday!

Monday Morning Mojo Happy Birthday Sis!

Tag: Contests, Entertainment, Just Fun, Life, Love, Monday Mojo, Mouthy Girls, VideosMouthyGirl @ 5:30 am

Today is another Monday, Columbus Day even, which is a day that we celebrate Christopher Columbus discovering the “New World” that would come to be the country we know and love today. I won’t tell you how old she’ll be but she is my older sister.

This week will be very eventful as not only is it my sister’s birthday today, tomorrow my new nephew will be born. One of my younger sisters is going in to have a C-section and we’ll have another addition to the family.

Yesterday, my family, my sister and her family and my Dad and Stepmom all went out for lunch. It was fun, and it’s always nice to spend time with family. We get caught up in our own lives and sometimes forget to stop and get together to catch up. Before you know it the kids are grown and we’re wondering where the time went and reminiscing about when gas was under $1 a gallon. Those were the days.

We are counting down to our cruise on November 1st, getting excited, a little nervous. I’m a little shy. Hey don’t act so surprised, it’s easy to sit down and type out my thoughts and share with you what’s going on in my life, because you don’t have a face when I’m typing, you do when you comment and begin to interact with me here, but until then, I’m just writing to Wordpress. Any further thought beyond that I’m afraid would produce the problem of writer’s block. So the idea of meeting people and sitting with strangers at dinner and all that kind of has me a little wierded out.

So in honor of my older sister getting older today, here’s a song for her.

Ha Ha!

Here’s a song that is special to she and I because it was always a song that reminded us of our little sister..

Finally, a song for my nephew…

I love that song, it’s very true to how I feel about my son, and nieces and nephews. Life has so much to offer that you can’t help but hope that they get to experience the absolute best of everything, and the least experience of pain and trials possible. As children we often underestimate the harsh realities of adulthood because our parents, rightfully, try to shield us from their trials, the things that make them worry. All too often as youngsters we were so busy looking forward to the freedoms of adulthood that we forgot the freedoms of childhood were right in front of us.

Additionally, this weekend I added a few things in the administration panel of MouthyGirl.com to make galleries easier and to add polls to the sidebar, so polls will become a regular sidebar item. They’re a great way to find out what you think without asking for a lot of your time. Also, I began work on the sister site to MouthyGirl.com. I haven’t decided on a slogan for it, or even really a title, this will be where I will introduce products that you might like, and where I’ll start linking to various deals and products that we like. I’m excited about the possibilities of it and will announce it once I’ve gotten it all ready for your viewing.

Stay tuned for Halloween contest details to come everyone and have a Happy Monday. And to my sister April, HAPPY BIRTHDAY SIS!

Wednesday Fwd: Husband 1.0

Tag: Entertainment, Just Fun, Life, Mouthy Girls, SexMouthyGirl @ 5:30 am

As much as I would love to discuss the debate with you all, I can find no words for most of my opinions about it that aren’t curse words, so we’ll just not talk about it. I think I do know now who I will vote for though.

You’re going to vote right? I have to vote early because I’ll be on a cruise on Election Day but I’m definitely voting. You should too.

Now we’ll save the politics for another post. On to Wednesday Fwd:

Don’t you wish there were tech support for real life problems outside the computer? I guess they call those therapists and they’re not covered by the company but in a perfect world….

Shoulda kept him as a boyfriend!

**INSTALLING A HUSBAND **

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slow down in overall system performance, particularly in the flower and jewelry applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0.

In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as
Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, and then installed undesirable programs such as NBA 5.0, NFL 3.0 and Golf Clubs 4.1.

Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system.

Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?

Signed,

Desperate

DEAR DESPERATE,

First, keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an operating system.

Please enter command: ithoughtyoulovedme.html and try to download Tears 6.2 and do not forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update.
If that application works as designed, Husband1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5.

However, remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0 or Beer 6.1.
Please note that Beer 6. 1 is a very bad program that will download the Farting and Snoring Loudly Beta.

Whatever you do, DO NOT under any circumstances install Mother-In-Law 1.0 (it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources.)

In addition, please do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend 5.0 program. These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband 1.0.

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance. We recommend: Cooking 3.0 and Hot Lingerie 7.7.

Good Luck !

Tech Support

Happy Hump Day Everyone!

GirlFriday I Demand Music MTV!

Tag: Entertainment, GirlFriday, Mouthy Girls, OpinionMouthyGirl @ 8:26 am

What happened? Where did the music go?

I turn it to MTV and the best I can get for music is Awards shows or F’n MTV. Ahem, is this thing on? I want MY MTV, the MTV that had Beavis & Butthead and Kurt Loader with the news minute and the rest was MUSIC! Even Beavis & Butthead had music, so it qualified to be on MTV.

Who took over and took the music?! What happened to Headbanger’s Ball?
Whoever let that anti-music pro-reality show weirdo in (programming director?), needs to be fired, they’ve destroyed the very fiber of MTV by tainting it with reality shows and celebrities personal lives, that we care ABSOLUTELY nothing about!. Can we leave that for tabloid TV please?

What? MTV is tabloid TV? I’m going to cry now. Stay tuned, I’m working up a revolution to get our music back!

Until then….let’s rawk!

One by Metallica.

Until it Sleeps also by Metallica.

Okay, enough headbanging…wanna go retro with me?

Let’s Go..

That was 500 Miles by The Proclaimers.

Have a great Friday everyone!

Twitter this, Twitter that…

Tag: Entertainment, Just Fun, Mouthy GirlsMouthyGirl @ 6:21 am

When I first joined Twitter, I didn’t get it and my profile stayed dormant for a month or so, but more and more of the bloggers I read started mentioning Twitter and I started getting active there as well. One Friday night I happened to be on Twitter chatting with several people and was notified of a radio show that was streaming that I could be a part of, so off to the radio show I went, and had a great time!

There have been political debates on Twitter, movements, and someone was even released from jail in a foreign country because of the word spread on Twitter to help get him released.

Even if you don’t get it, or like it, Twitter has become a very powerful tool in communication. I’ve read the blogs and seen the websites of people I never would’ve otherwise seen and gotten some really great information. In fact, yesterday, as a show of support to finding the cure for Breast Cancer I changed my Twitter avatar to pink as well as the background. You see, that’s an epidemic that must be stopped and that small change to my little Twitter profile will show my support in my small way.

Twitter isn’t for everyone, as I was reading DCR, a blog I read often, he mentioned that Twitter can be tricky, in the comments by his other readers I could tell that not everyone likes Twitter as much as I. But therein lies the beauty of social media, not everyone has to be part of it for it to work, and there are other forms of social media that those same people may like instead of Twitter.

I feel that it fills my need for interaction with the blogging, networking world as well as helping to grow MouthyGirl and get the word out that I’m here, I’m mouthy and it’s all good.

So while the haters, as my generation loves to call them, are gonna hate, and the lovers are gonna love it, maybe you should stop in, set up a profile and be my Twitter bud! Be sure to let me know you’re following me and I will of course reciprocate!

Cya’ll tomorrow for GirlFriday!

It’s a Hard Knock Life for us…

Tag: Humility, Life, Mouthy Girls, OpinionMouthyGirl @ 12:18 pm

Vince Young scared everyone earlier this week when it was rumored he was thinking of suicide and drove away from his Florida home with a gun in his possession. Not knowing what he would do, his therapist alerted his manager and the police so that he could be found and properly treated if necessary. I read this all on my local news website here.

What is sad is what started all this. Mr. Young apparently threw an interception during a game (he’s a football player if you didn’t know) and was booed, and further, the media has driven it into the ground to the point the man wants to quit the sport he is good enough to play professionally, and is talking about suicide.

Mr. Young is not the only reason I’m writing this, my point with this is the talk of suicide. That’s nothing to joke about, it’s nothing to take lightly. My step-father committed suicide when I was 14 and let me tell you, that’s something that will screw up your whole world. And you thought your parents getting a divorce was hard.

I cannot imagine committing suicide and leaving my loved ones behind, however I can’t say that I’ve always felt that way. Though I may have wanted to when I was young I grew past those feelings and knew they were not normal feelings, sadly it was because I knew someone who had committed suicide and the affect it had on me. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.

The feelings and the questions you have, the abandonment you feel is unimaginable. You feel guilt because you couldn’t stop it and because you think you might be the cause of it. It’s a devastating event to happen in anyone’s life.

I think it’s ridiculous personally that Vince Young would go so far as to talk of suicide over a game mistake, in fact I think it’s irresponsible of him as a famous athlete to be so short sighted. What’s the matter Vince, the crowd booed you? Aw, is life really so hard when you check your bank balance?

Want a problem Vince? Ever been foreclosed on? Gotten fired from a job when you have a family to feed? Get downsized from the only job you’ve worked in your entire life? Life isn’t really that hard now is it Vince? So the crowd booed you, they have a right to because they paid for the damn ticket to see a good show and you didn’t put one on for them. They were upset. That’s called accountability. At least you have a contract to secure your position there and one little mistake isn’t going to cost you your job.

He could have worse problems is my only point and I’m offended at his lack of understanding of the difficulties other people face to be so irresponsible and throw around suicide as an option. Someone should let him know he’s got people looking up to him and to talk like that is the worst kind of thoughtlessness.
