Wendy’s Weekly Take: Nation of Cowards

by MouthyGirl

This past week, Attorney General Eric Holder said , “though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been and I believe continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards.” He went on to say that even though in schools and at work we are integrated, we are still segregated in our personal lives. Of course, this brought a bunch of feigned outrage from both the left and right and all of them white-as-white can be. “Eric Holder, our President is BLAAA-CK!!! We are living in post-racial America! You don’t know what you’re talking about”

Um, sorry wrong.

Case in point, the New York Post put out a political cartoon which shows police officers looking over the dead chimp they shot with a caption that reads “They’ll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill.” Many African-Americans saw that as racist. You see, there is history of African-Americans being depicted as monkeys and really it’s not cool. And the Post basically responded to the criticism by saying, “Sorry if you were offended, but this wasn’t supposed to depict the President, now go screw off”.

Sure, we live in a free country with free speech. This political cartoon is well within those rights. But words have consequences. And no matter what the true intention of the message, the perception was “Barack Obama is a chimp with three bullet holes in his chest”. THAT has consequences.

Racism still exists. Just because more than half of America voted for a black man for the job of president, doesn’t mean that racism is over. What’s more is that even though many Americans will work side by side with a person of another race and smile and say “racism is dead,” would also say having that person over for dinner is out of the question when no one else is around. We don’t talk about that reality.

Why? Cause we’re a nation of cowards.

The sword cuts both ways. He wasn’t addressing just those of us with the fairer complexions. He was talking to all of us. Sure, you can pout and say it’s not nice to be called a coward. But if the shoe fits, wear it.

I Support Kinky!

by MouthyGirl

That doesn’t mean what you think it does.

I’m talking about Texas. I am tired of “Governor Good Hair” for this state and I want someone else. NOW!

Rick Perry is scandalous and dirty and just knowing Sarah Palin is backing him makes me sick to my stomach. What good does her support do? None in my opinion.

I can’t get behind someone who would encourage truck drivers from Mexico to come through our state on an expressway made just for them when we have highways that work just fine and could use that same budget to repair our existing roads and highways and then some.

Like Kinky I’d like to be ASAP (as sure as possible) when we execute someone in this state that they are guilty, if there is DNA available to test now that we didn’t have the ability to test when that person was at trial, by all means test it first BEFORE EXECUTING the prisoner.

It’s only fair to exhaust all avenues available to be 100% sure. Isn’t fairness what the justice system was created to protect?

I was so excited to see him headlining nbcdfw.com I forgot the whole reason I went to the site. In any case, I am excited about Kinky running again, I was concerned that he may not, I think this time we’re going to see a far more serious side of Kinky Friedman, the side that writes from the heart and founded that animal preserve.

The things that made me want to support Kinky Friedman were not the things that were reported on by the media, they were the things I found out on my own when I started digging for more information about him. Like his suggestion that adults be treated like children and children be treated like adults. I think we’d all be surprised at how moral, decent and caring children are if we’d listen to them.

I’m excited about the coming campaign and you can be sure I’ll be active and outspoken about it. I get much more excited about local politics than national for some reason. I’m a patriot, what can I say.

You can find more information about Kinky at his website. Definitely check that out.

He’s not Kinky, he’s my Governor!
